My Grandma’s Saree and a Jacket Blouse

If you don’t get why I am so excited about jacket blouses, here’s a little background. In the Nepalese Hindu community, we conduct any auspicious ceremony such as weddings and coming-of-age ceremonies only on selected dates suggested by an astrologer. These dates mostly fall during winter season, and consequently, the reception (or bhoj as we call it) is in super cold weather. Growing up, I saw aunties looking spectacular but shivering in delicate sarees, with stylish sleeveless blouses with backs wide open, and a matching pashmina shawl their only source of warmth in temperatures as cold as 10 degrees or even colder (at this point if you are going to be like “but I saw aunties wearing coats”, I saw them too. I’m speaking generally, there’s always exceptions!!).

Now, as comfort takes priority, no longer do we need to compromise warmth during bhoj season. From jacket blouses to wearing actual jackets as a blouse, there are so many styling ideas to wear traditional sarees and still stay warm! On this particular wedding function, I chose to pair a delicate printed French chiffon saree from my grandma’s wardrobe. Paired it with a raw silk zip-up blouse from Muku. Check it out!

I hope this gives you ladies some inspiration to never compromise comfort for style. Stay tuned for two more looks I opted for this bhoj season. Till then, Anka signing off!
